A specialist non-life insurance and reinsurance underwriting group. The group has operations in Bermuda as well as in Europe (currently Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and France) and has significantly expanded internationally over the last 4 or 5 years.


Job Description

The group has changed significantly in the last 4 or 5 years and the resulting tax issues have become increasingly complex. The Group has insurance operations in Bermuda, Europe and Switzerland, as well as service companies in Singapore, Dubai and the US. The tax department manages the tax affairs for the whole group, including corporate income tax, tax reporting, VAT, IPT and some employee taxes. At present there are twelve members of staff including Head of Tax and vacancies. Responsibilities of the Tax Compliance & Reporting Specialist are:

Tax compliance

  • Responsible for the tax compliance process of all of the non-UK entities including;
  • Annual corporation tax returns - ensuring the returns are filed within the statutory deadlines
  • Management of the relationship with the tax advisors who are preparing the returns (including providing information to the advisors and dealing with any queries)
  • Review of the tax return prior to final review by the Compliance & Reporting Tax Manager
  • Payment calculations (where relevant) and ensuring payments are made on time
  • Correspondence and liaison with tax authorities


  • Responsible for the preparation of the following, for review by the compliance & reporting tax manager:
  • Quarterly tax reporting for the non-UK companies, including preparation of tax charge, tax journals and tax template to the group tax team in the UK
  • Tax disclosures for the non-UK company annual published accounts


  • Liaising with accounting teams to manage the quarterly tax reporting process/timetable
  • Provide tax support to the non-UK accounting teams where necessary
  • Communicate with local tax authorities
  • Communicate with external advisors

Other key areas

  • Assist the compliance & reporting manager (and other members of the tax team as required) with any ad hoc projects
  • Be responsible for dealing will all requests relating to withholding tax documentation from brokers and investment managers (e.g. certificates of residence and FATCA certifications)
  • Calculation of Dutch wage tax in relation to claims and final levy.
  • Advise on (ad hoc) queries regarding Dutch wage tax issues
  • Risk management and Planning - Identify opportunities and threats for the Group from changes in the business environment and changes to tax law.
  • Relationship management - Develop good relationships with other Finance teams and with business teams outside of Finance.

The Successful Applicant

The role of Tax Compliance & Reporting Specialist requires a qualified tax professional. Financial services experience is desirable but not essential. A key requirement of the role is a sound background in tax, and strong understanding of tax reporting & accounting.

Job Specific
