This position is the Top Corporate Tax Officer responsible for overall tax strategy, planning, compliance and accounting for Hancock Holding Company and the Bank

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements tax planning strategies
  • Stays abreast of changing tax legislation and company activities to ensure compliance with tax laws and desired tax impacts are achieved
  • Oversees the preparation and filing of federal, state and municipal income, franchise, property and sales/use tax returns for the Company and Bank
  • Sets tax accounting policies and ensures accurate and complete tax accounting records and disclosures
  • Provides the organization with technical analysis and expertise with regards to corporate tax issues and accounting requirements
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable tax and banking regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies
  • Incumbent is required to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local banking and industry related laws and regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Incumbent is responsible for organizational integrity and business ethics as it relates to this position, and communicating this commitment to subordinates.
  • Incumbent may have access to cash, customer accounts and/or sensitive and confidential information
  • Prepares and maintains internal control documentation over the accounting and reporting processes
  • Understands complex regulations and identifies the best source for providing accurate information
  • Interfaces with multiple department heads throughout the Company to receive updated and accurate information and provide guidance and direction on tax matters
  • Interfaces with internal and external auditors and regulators

Minimum Required Education, Experience, Licenses And Certifications

Minimum Required Education, Experience & Knowledge:

    • Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting and at least 10 years of tax experience in public Accounting and/or Banking.
    • CPA certification and a Master’s Degree is preferred.
    • An equivalent combination of education and related experience and/or training may be considered.
    • Must have an advanced level of understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and tax and business strategies.
    • Must have an advanced understanding of the banking industry.
    • Must have an advanced knowledge of long-range planning and budgeting
    • Must have an advanced knowledge of federal and state tax laws, tax accounting and banking regulations.

Essential Mental & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 25 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
