The Taxation group is responsible for providing tax advisory and planning services in support of transactions, products and strategic business initiatives and tax compliance services for the Company group of companies worldwide. The Director, Tax Compliance is responsible for all aspects of Canadian income tax compliance including tax filings, statutory reporting and assisting with tax audits for the Company group of companies worldwide. The Director will report to the Senior Director, Tax Compliance.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Tax Compliance - You will prepare or review federal and provincial tax returns for Company Canadian legal entities. You will review tax instalments and ensure payments are made on timely basis. You will perform analysis of differences between tax provisions and tax returns as well as all tax supporting documentation. You are responsible to liaise with the relevant tax authorities and assist in audits, including preparing or reviewing responses to audit queries. You will operationalize tax recommendations from the Tax Planning and Advisory Group. Further, you shall assist with special projects on an ad-hoc basis and in monitoring proposed Canadian tax legislation and accounting pronouncements that impact tax compliance and reporting.
  • Tax and Financial/Regulatory Reporting – You are to prepare or review monthly/quarterly income and capital tax provisions for Company Canadian legal entities. You will review monthly/quarterly tax continuity schedules including reconciliations of the tax statements. You will prepare or review tax-related financial statement note disclosures and work closely with the Finance team in support of the tax-related statutory reporting.

  • You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditations in good standing. CPA designation with at least 5 years of corporate tax experience in public practice and/or industry. Completion of the CICA In-Depth program is an asset.
  • You can demonstrate working knowledge of tax compliance, tax accounting and financial accounting. It’s an asset if you have working experience with financial institutions. You have the ability to work independently and as a team player with strong multi-tasking skills to meet tight deadlines in a fast pace environment.
  • You understand that success is in the details. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.
  • You're digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies. You can easily adapt to new tools and trends. You have advanced Excel skills and general working knowledge of other business applications (Word, TaxPrep, PowerPoint, G/L systems).
  • You're fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
