The Indirect Tax Planning Director reports directly to the Director, WT SOX Compliance, with dotted line responsibility to WT Tax Director. This position will be responsible for driving global indirect tax savings projects for all WT Business Units in the areas of sales & use tax, VAT, GST, property taxes, excise, maximizing global incentives, etc. Senior level role requiring experience with leading and identifying planning projects, handling system implementations, developing and delivering training, helping with M&A indirect tax due diligence & restructuring reviews, etc. Significant interaction with senior level management in Business Units, as well as all operational personnel, customers, and vendors. The Global Indirect Tax Manager reports to this position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Tax:
  • Lead indirect tax planning projects globally for WT sales and use taxes, VAT, GST, property tax, excise tax, and other non-income taxes.
  • Develop and conduct extensive indirect training programs throughout all WT Business Units. Immediate need for extensive Sales Tax Training, Use Tax Training, Exemption Certificate Training, and Contract Training for new indirect tax legislation changes.
  • Drive property tax planning initiatives identified and coordinate with property tax consultants.
  • Assist WT Tax Director in WT indirect tax reviews on M&A and restructuring projects.
  • Assist WT Business Units in review of customer and vendor contracts for correct indirect tax application and savings opportunities, as well as be the primary contact for WT US customers and vendors for US sales & use and property tax matters.
  • Lead Vertex implementation projects within the Segment, i.e. help develop and maintain sales tax matrix, plant code matrix, drive tax deliverables from Segment and Corporate Tax within implementation deadlines, etc.
  • Monitor Global Indirect Tax trends, legislation, and best-in class practices.
  • Provide guidance to ledgers undergoing indirect tax audits and requests from the Corporate Sales & Use Tax Department for data.
  • Conduct extensive tax research on sales and use, property tax and other indirect tax matters.
  • Insure ledgers and systems are reporting accurate data to Corporate Sales Tax personnel handling return filings, indirect tax audits, etc.
  • Review Quarterly Self-Testing reports from ledgers and help develop solutions to resolve indirect tax reporting issues.
  • Extensive coordination required with US Corporate Tax group and Region Tax personnel
Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor degree in Accounting or Related Field;
  • Required 15+ years leading and driving indirect tax planning projects
  • Oil and Gas Service Industry experience preferred
  • Must have a strong tax technical research proficiency
  • Public Accounting experience desirable
