Under the guidance of the VP, Tax Policy and Litigation
§ Oversight and management of tax appeals and litigation at US federal and state levels and internationally (with majority of activity expected to involve non-US tax controversies).
§ Work with members of Oracle’s Global tax leadership, regional tax audit teams, and outside counsel to review applicable law and cases, analyse, and develop defensive positions, prepare outlines for legal briefs, and review and edit drafts of briefs.
§ Perform similar functional work in relation to tax treaty-based competent authority proceedings, significant administrative appeals, and other advocacy situations.
§ Support the regional teams in assessing the performance of and selection of outside tax counsel and advisors.
§ Assist in process improvement efforts relating to the efficient and effective management of tax appeals.
Candidate Profile:
§ Education: J.D. degree and excellent academic performance in law school.
§ Several years of relevant advocacy experience.
§ Analytical, technically-minded and detail-oriented. Enjoys delving deeply into complicated factual/legal situations and searching for the optimal defensive positions.
§ Highly developed collaboration skills. Enjoys brainstorming in teams to develop and synthesize ideas into relevant positions. Listens to and understands point of view of other team members.
§ Superior oral communication and writing skills with proven ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively (sample analytical and advocacy memos, briefs or articles will be requested).
§ Strong work ethic with willingness to participate in occasional evening or weekend calls and videoconferences with regional teams.
§ Self-motivated with strong sense of ownership.
§ Supervisory and talent management skills, including recruiting, leading, motivating, and advancing junior employees.
§ Strong project management, organization and time-management skills with ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
§ Willingness to travel internationally on occasion.
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Manage and coordinate internal and external resources to implement company tax savings strategies. Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns. Manages a professional staff.

Be an integral partner in Oracle*s business decisions to enhance shareholder value by providing tax-related advice globally to all business units. Develop and implement systems to compile information for various federal, state, local, and international reports. Represent the company on tax matters in government, professional, and industry associations. Performs or directs research; analysis and interpretation of federal, state, and local statutes. Manages and oversees international tax laws and regulations. May be involved with tax implications of mergers and acquisitions.

Directs and ensures the implementation of operational policies through subordinate managers Interacts internally and externally with executive management involving negotiation of difficult matters to influence policy. Functional expertise and broad company knowledge. Maintain current knowledge of all tax laws affecting Oracle. Strong business and tax technical skills needed. Detail oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Ability to work with outside advisors. Experience with computer tax systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and project management skills. Experience in public accounting firm and/or high technology industry. BA/BS in Accounting or Finance preferred. CPA and or MS/MBA tax a plus.
