TIAA’s Corporate Tax department is responsible for compliance with worldwide tax laws, developing and implementing tax efficiencies and strategic priorities for the enterprise, and financial statement reporting of taxes.


Corporate Tax is seeking a Tax Operations Manager in the Charlotte, NC office. This position will be a key contributor to building out best practices associated with the tax department’s processes and technology. The ideal candidate will be able to maintain the current tax technology applications and work closely with the Tax Operations Director to continue to develop and implement comprehensive tax technology platforms and applications.


  • Manage day-to-day tax department technology needs which includes maintaining tax applications and related processes. Work closely with department personnel and provide software access and support.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the Company’s information technology environment, including tax software, hardware, and IT-related policies and procedures. Serve as Tax SME for data governance and records management.
  • Partner with TIAA IT departments and external vendors to ensure tax department needs are properly considered and met.
  • Analyze existing business and system processes to identify and implement tax automation strategies to reduce the tax department staff time spent on manual efforts such as data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Develop and implement ideas in regards to modernizing the tax technology platforms and the related processes in order to respond to the Company's expanding global footprint and complexity.
  • Serve as project manager on tax technology projects.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 8 + years experience in a large tax department or public accounting firm with a minimum of 5
years in a tax technology/operations role
  • Familiarity with SDLC phases and experience with drafting business requirements documents
and performing rigorous testing against those requirements.
  • Experience with troubleshooting Microsoft Excel issues
  • Degree in Tax and/or Information Systems
  • 10+ years experience in a large tax department or public accounting firm with a minimum of 7
years in a tax technology/operations role
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrate an exceptional standard of quality, accuracy, attention to detail, thoughtful
analysis and problem-solving for excellent results.
  • Tax experience in the financial services industry
  • CPA
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters tax applications – ONESOURCE Provision Tax, DataFlow,
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and Yardi GL systems
  • Experience with RPA and self-service automation and analytics tools
