Responsible for PSG Wealth tax function, including both operational and financial tax aspects. The role involves strategic tax planning, managing tax risk (both financial and operational), as well as ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of tax processes. Role requires a strong blend of financial services specialist skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills for this team leadership role.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

Financial Tax Management:

 

  • Submission of all tax returns (Provisional Tax, Income Tax, VAT, DWT, PAYE) for PSG Wealth businesses
  • Analysis and review financial information and operational data in compliance with accounting standards and taxation requirements
  • Monthly processing and review of tax accounting entries (including deferred tax)
  • Balance sheet reconciliations for tax accounts
  • Review & authorise tax payments
  • Cashflow planning/management involving corporate tax payments
  • Assist with reports and data required to ensure external audit requirement is met

Operational Tax Management:

 

  • Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities for advisers/clients
  • Work closely with PSG Wealth service providers to ensure that all required tax client investment income and related data is available in required format and level of detail for submission to SARS and client tax certificates
  • Work closely with IT CRL team to ensure tax compliance, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Liaising with the JSE regarding tax implications of corporate actions and BDA transactions
  • Liaising with ASISA regarding tax matters affecting the funds industry
  • Analysis of all Corporate Actions regarding tax impact

Annual/Interim Tax Project Management:

 

  • Preparation and testing of annual/interim tax certificates (IT3a, IT3c, IT3a, IT3s, IT3f, IRP5) for provisional and annual tax purposes

General:

 

  • Analysis and implementation of any new tax legislation
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks
  • Preparing technical tax opinions and advice in a formal manner
  • Preparation of tax objections and dealing with complex SARS matters
  • Analysis of all business processes ensuring tax efficiency and compliance
  • Continuous improvement of tax policies and processes, including automation
  • Ensure timeous follow up and feedback on queries both externally and internally (SARS, advisers, clients, other PSG Konsult/Wealth operational units)
  • Tax reporting to business committees (Opscom, Manco, Exco, Board)
  • Engagement with external tax/legal experts on complex tax matters
  • Assisting various operating divisions across the PSG Konsult Group with tax requirements and requests

Staff Management:

 

  • Management of small team, including professionals.
  • Skills development of tax team
  • Management of key dependencies within tax team

 

Minimum requirements / qualifications:

 

  • CA (SA) or Tertiary Tax Qualification is essential (HDipTax)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years work experience in financial services industry
  • Experience in stockbroking and/or funds environment is essential
  • Programming experience is advantageous
  • Solid MS Office skills with advanced Excel
