  • With full Brazil scope in Tax, this role is responsible for devising, aligning, and executing Brazil´s tax planning, reporting, and compliance. The job´s principal aim is to drive Brazil´s pursuit of tax opportunities to reduce tax and maximize tax incentives and benefits, optimize cash flow, and to identify and mitigate related tax risks. The role acts as the liaison with Area Tax & Treasury LA, keeping them abreast of all issues and aligning to Corporate strategy. It also acts as the liaison with local Tax team, CFO and General Manager, understanding local issues, and advising them on opportunities and risk management.

  • This position reports directly to the Area Tax and Treasury Director - LA
  • Responsible of a tax team of 7 people, out of which he supervises 2 direct reports all of them G3 Global level (1 in Kellogg Brasil in Sao Paulo, and 1 in Parati San Lourenco de Oeste)
  • Peer relationships exist across multiple functions throughout the organization (e.g., Area Tax Managers G5´s and G4´s, Area Treasury Manager G5, Brazil Finance P&R and Financial Planning Managers G5¨s and G4’s, GBS Managers G5’s and G4’s, Brazil Legal Director G6h, Brazil Procurement, Supply chain and Marketing managers G5’s and G4’s,
  • Constant interaction with General Manager´s and CFO’s of both Kellogg Brasil and Parati
  • Interacts directly with external tax advisors, lawyers and auditors firms.

  • Income Tax expense US $ 15 – 20 million
  • Potential Income tax opportunities $ 6 million annual
  • Potential Indirect tax opportunities US $ 10 million one-time projects
  • Potential Tax credits opportunities US $ 5 million one-time
  • Responsible of Tax Planning, and management of 5 legal entities in Brazil, and 2 in South cone.
  • Manage Big- 4 tax, accounting and law firms
  • Point of contact / main responsible for Tax Mercosur region (Brazil, Chile and Argentina)
  • Responsible of a tax team of 7 employees (3 in Sao Paulo and 4 in San Lorenco)

  • General Job Functions:
  • Coordinates, supervise and reviews the Tax planning and compliance and reporting process for all Brazilian and Mercosur entities, ensuring accurate and timely planning ideas, statutory and corporate fillings to ensure efficient Effective Tax Rate and Tax Cash flow. Support Tax Director on different tax planning initiatives and projects. Support Income Tax and Transfer pricing work . Increased involvement and interaction with controversial Tax with LA tax managers. Support legal and other areas in the case of tax inspections. Liaise with other operational areas such as logistics, procurement, production upon discussion and implementation of tax planning ideas.
  • Specific Job Function: (check applicable boxes)
  • Tax Planning – Support Area Tax Director on tax planning ideas to minimize Income Tax, and Indirect Tax; and maximize tax incentives and tax benefits, Net profit and cash flow. Establish working relationships with external advisors and internal resources to discuss, research and understand tax trends of new operating models that achieve tax efficiencies.
  • Tax Strategic Projects – Work with Area Tax Director on Cash repatriation and utilization planning, Support on Implementation of new operating models, restructures; Organizational changes, Licensing transactions, Simplification of Legal entity structure; negotiation of incentives with tax authorities, in order to maximize indirect tax and income tax benefits.
  • US GAAP Tax Reporting – Interacts with GBS Finance and Accounting teams in Brazil and LA, as well as External firms, Tax Compliance team, and Corporate tax in order to ensure Tax Reproting timely and accurately Effective Tax rates (ETR), Deferred Taxes, Tax accounting, Tax Reporting templates (TRT), budget and actual cash flow, Tax packages, Fin 48 Uncertain Tax positions templates, footnote disclosures.
  • Tax Compliance – Ensures timely and accurately filing of monthly and annual tax returns of the various Indirect taxes, supervising his team to ensure compliance of tax obligations. Manage full tax compliance of Brazilian legal entities
  • Tax audits and litigation - Manage with support of Legal team and external tax/legal advisors tax assessments, audits and requirements from local tax authorities related to prior years based on statue of limitation of each country, working closely with external tax law firms, external tax advisors and accounting team, and defines together with the Area Tax Director the documentation filing, lobbying and negotiation strategy during the whole process. Also works with lawyers in order to prepare, follow-up and litigate any tax case taken to tax court.
  • Advisory and Business partnering - Advise and assists other areas and Business units on Tax matters, such as Marketing, Supply chain, Procurement, Commercial on recommended models in order to achieve tax synergies.
  • Transfer Pricing – Based on local regulations, work together with external advisors, legal department and Accounting teams, he/she will supervise, review inter-company agreements, transactions, operations to assure “arm’s length” and transfer pricing good practices on a market value, in order to achieve proper transfer pricing studies and documentation to ensure timely statutory compliance. Impacts to customs valuation rules and consequences upon importation of goods in LATAM should be considered on transfer Pricing studies. Also work to simplify and improve the flow and number of inter-company transactions within the region.
  • Manage and supervise people – Lead tax professionals providing training and technical guidance. Assist subordinates in advancing in their careers in or out the tax function. Main point of contact and responsible of Mercosur region.

  • Technical Competencies:
  • Tax planning :
  • Deep and extensive knowledge on indirect taxes in Brazil such as ICMS, ICMS-ST, IPI, PIS/COFINS and ISS;
  • Capability to identify tax impacts upon corporate and operational restructuring processes of the business;
  • Understanding of specific Brazilian issues related to ICMS-ST including refund processes and alternatives to minimize its impacts;
  • Capability to deal and negotiate tax incentives with tax authorities under Municipal, State and Federal levels;
  • Manage changes on Brazilian tax legislation;
  • Capability to clearly communicate Brazilian tax implications with headquarters;
  • Proactively collaborates with Tax and other departments to develop innovative ideas and solutions to the Business needs.

  • Works in office environment using PC. Must have the ability to manage conflicting/changing priorities and environment. Some Business travel is required to US and Latin America mainly.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships within and outside the department and outside de company with Government and outside advisors. Works under pressure and deathliness. Requires frequent contact with Corporate Tax managers.


Bachelor's Accounting degree in accredited University.
Solid accounting and tax skills, and some Financial skills.

At least 15 years of tax / accounting work experience, out of which 10 years minimum of tax experience. Or at least 6 years of similar managerial tax experience in case of external candidates.

Preferred if experience in US Multinational companies and Big-4 Tax Accounting firms. Desired if experience with regular contact with Corporate Tax Headquarters. International experience should be a plus.

Proficient and strong PC skills with an emphasis on Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Experience with regional responsibilities for a multinational company. Knowledge on Indirect tax aspects is a must, and Direct Taxes is a plus.

Proficient and Advanced in English is a must and Spanish language is a plus.

Must have strong analytical skills, Decision making, Risk taking, Project leader, Hands-on, Organization skills, Results oriented.
